Two Heads, Two Branches — One Unstoppable Monster

Two Heads, Two Branches — One Unstoppable Monster

Bill-Hillary Monster

He’s baaaack:

Amid the blizzard of résumés blanketing Washington as the Obama era dawns, there is a superbly qualified candidate for full employment whose name has been overlooked. We refer, of course, to William Jefferson Clinton, America’s 42nd chief executive and commander in chief. Yet now, by a wonderful combination of circumstances, comes an opportunity to harness his unquestioned political talents to benefit his country, the Democratic Party, New York state and his spouse. If, as is expected, Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton becomes secretary of state, New York Gov. David Paterson could send her husband to the U.S. Senate.

Doing so would spare the governor the agonizing dilemma of choosing from the 20 or so Democrats already named as contenders for the junior senator’s seat.

. . .

Hence the appeal of Bill Clinton. Who in his party could question so historic and dazzling a choice? In a stroke, the appointment would provide Sen. Clinton’s indefatigable husband with a fitting day job, serve the interests of a state beset by a meltdown in its most vital economic sector and offer a refreshing reverse twist on a tradition whereby deceased male senators, representatives or governors are succeeded by their widows.

I think that not only every Democratic party member, but every member of the human race could question this decision. Never mind nepotism — this leads to some serious separation of powers issues. If the ex-president Senator, who is still involved with shady dealings in Kazakhstan (where’s Borat when you need him), has a direct communication line, you can essentially guarantee a severe conflict of interests. Also, he is still an ex-president, and will have inordinate influence on all of the former Clintonistas that Obama has appointed to his administration. Just because unelected Hillary gained undue influence through Bill, doesn’t mean that she should return the favor by encouraging his unelected influence in the Senate.

Also, the rest of reasoning is the column is beyond parody:

-This already happened with J.Q. Adams!
-He started the Smithsonian Institution!
-We should have a House of Lords!

What?! When will these people ever go away? Can Chelsea be exiled before the coup d’etat of 2028?

. . . But it's not all bad!

Via Politico:

Defense Secretary Robert Gates has agreed to stay on under
President-elect Barack Obama, according to officials in both parties.
Obama plans to announce a national-security team early next week that
includes Gates at the Pentagon and Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-N.Y.) as secretary of state, officials said.

Is there anybody who follows foreign affairs who doesn’t like Bob Gates? This is a smooth pick-up, and definitely helps to soften the Clinton blow; very akin to the Geither pick in its savviness.

Expect a full Cabinet breakdown as soon as every position is announced.

She Lives

She Lives

Hillary ClintonAs with all proclamations of the Clintons’ demise, the “Witch is Dead!” meme of the primary season has proven far too optimistic, as Sen. Hillary Clinton is now, for all intents, the Secretary of State in waiting.

Why do I hate Hillary so much? Well, besides the faux populism, the shameless warmongering, the put-on tears for victory, the malignant staff that surrounded her like flies around a fetid spirit, HilaryCare (no unelected figure should ever, ever be determining policy in this country. Ever.),  the Whitewater dealings, the psychodramatic egotism, the Balkan lies, the memos, and the coyly veiled racism via Drudgeleaking, there’s the fact that she has stood for nothing but opportunism and callous nihilism. Bush’s wreckage is political; the damage of the Clinton administration is spiritual, and should not be dismissed out of hand.

Besides these, Ken Silverstein offers five good reasons why Clinton should not be secretary of state:

1. Hillary Clinton will have her own agenda (as will her husband).
She’s not a team player and will bring in a crew of cronies whose chief
aim will be to promote the boss, not the administration. Obama may wake up one day and discover that Hillary has decreed a new “Clinton
Doctrine” of foreign policy.

2. It would be impossible, politically, to fire Hillary. No matter what she says or does, or how insubordinate, Obama will be stuck with her as long as she wants to stay.

3. Her husband is a walking conflict of interest. Bill helps a Canadian businessman land a uranium contract in Kazakhstan, and soon afterwards the businessman contributes to the Clinton Foundation. Bill’s personal and business dealings are embarrassing enough without Hillary heading the State Department.

4. The Clinton style of management–for example, pitting one faction
of staff against another–would be a disaster at the State Department.
Just look at how well it worked on the campaign trail.

5. And the strongest strike of all against Hillary as secretary of state… look at who endorses her.

I predict, in youthful cockiness, that Andrew will come to regret supporting Hillary’s secretarial appointment, should it come to pass. I have trouble believing that the man who wrote this

The Clintons have always had a touch of the zombies about them: unkillable, they move relentlessly forward, propelled by a bloodlust for Republicans or uppity Democrats who dare to question their supremacy. You can’t escape; you can’t hide; and you can’t win. And these days, in the kinetic pace of the YouTube campaign, they are like the new 28 Days Later zombies. They come at you really quickly, like bats out of hell. Or Ohio, anyway.

would support having this Two-Headed Beast determine foreign policy for the years to come. It’s also depressing to see how little opposition to her that we see from the right — but what can you expect from a party’s whose main values seem to be “Drill, drill, drill!” and “Bomb Iran!” ?
